Is your wall on its way out?
A wall that's leaning, cracked right through the bricks or has lost its coping usually isn't worth patching — the problem comes back. Other walls just need the joints sorting or a few bricks replacing.
We'll tell you straight on the free site visit which yours is, and give you a fixed written price either way.
Signs a wall needs attention:
- Leaning, bowing or bulging
- Cracks running through the bricks, not just the mortar
- Loose or missing coping and cap bricks
- Crumbling mortar along the base
- Roots from a nearby tree lifting it

Yard walls and back lanes
A lot of Tyne & Wear's terraced streets have brick yard walls and back-lane walls behind them. They take a battering — from bins, cars and decades of weather — and get patched until there's not much original left.
When one finally needs rebuilding, it's worth doing properly: sound footings, matching brick and a proper cap so the rain runs off. That's exactly what we did with the back-lane gate pillar above.

Questions
Common questions
Do I need planning permission for a garden wall?
Usually not. Under permitted development you can normally build a wall up to 1 metre high next to a road or footpath, and up to 2 metres elsewhere, without planning permission. Listed buildings and conservation areas have their own rules, so check with your council if either applies.
Can you match my existing brick?
Yes — we match the brick to your house or the existing wall, and add capping to finish it.
Do you build retaining walls and brick pillars?
Yes. Retaining walls, boundary walls, garden walls and decorative brick pillars are all jobs we take on.
The wall is on the boundary with my neighbour. Anything I should know?
It's worth agreeing the work with your neighbour first. If the wall sits astride the boundary, the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 can apply, so check before work starts.
