Gable wall repointed
The mortar along this gable wall had weathered back from the bricks. We raked out the old joints and repointed the full length of the wall, finished off neat and even.
Home / Repointing & brick repairs
Weathered mortar raked out and repointed, damaged bricks cut out and replaced — matched to your brick and colour. From a single wall to the full front of the house, across Tyne & Wear.
Mortar is the part of a wall that's meant to wear — and in the North East's wind and rain, it does. Once the joints have weathered back, water starts soaking into the brickwork instead of running off it, and that's when bricks start to crack and flake and damp finds its way inside.
Repointing early is the cheap fix. Leave it, and a repointing job can turn into replacing bricks or rebuilding a section of wall.
Signs it's time:
Every job starts with the same question: is it the mortar, the bricks, or the wall itself? Here's what we take on.
Raking out the old joints across a whole wall or the full front of the house, then repointing it neat and even.
Weather-damaged sections raked out and repointed in a matching mortar colour, so the repair blends in.
Spalled and broken bricks cut out and replaced with a brick that matches the rest of the wall.
Cracked, broken or bulging sections taken down and rebuilt — like the rear wall below.

The top of this rear wall had broken away and ivy had taken hold. We cleared it back, got a scaffold up and blocked up the old opening.
Older houses were often built with a softer mortar than you'd mix today. New mortar that's harder than the bricks around it can leave the bricks taking the weather instead of the joints — the opposite of what you want.
That's one reason the mortar mix is part of the price, and something we look at on the free site visit before we start.
