Knock throughs & steels
Opening up rooms, forming new doorways and taking out load-bearing walls — with the steel put in properly and the work signed off to building regs.
Done properly, or not at all
Knocking the kitchen and dining room into one, or widening a doorway, is one of the biggest changes you can make to how a house works. If the wall is holding up the house, it has to be done properly: the structure supported while the wall comes out, a steel beam put in on solid bearings, and the work inspected.
Our structural openings and steel installations are signed off and building-regs compliant.
What we do:
- Knock throughs between rooms
- New and widened door openings
- Load-bearing wall removal
- Steel beam installation
- Brick piers and padstones to carry the steel
Is the wall load-bearing?
Sometimes it's obvious; often it isn't. It depends on what's sitting on the wall — floor joists, another wall upstairs, the roof — not how thick it looks.
Don't guess. We'll look at it on the site visit, and a structural engineer can confirm it and size the steel.
